Es geht wieder los - Planungen / Reiseziel / Auswahl Motorrad / etc. Here we go again - planning / destination / choice of motorcycle / etc.

Nachdem wir von unserer letzten Tour im April 2023 wieder gesund und munter in der Heimat nach rund 11 Monaten zurückgekehrt waren, sind wir doch relativ schnell wieder in den alten „normalen“ Alltag angekommen.

After returning home safe and sound from our last tour in April 2023 after around 11 months of traveling , we got back to our old “normal” routine relatively quickly.

Uns beiden war aber eigentlich schon zu diesem Zeitpunkt klar, dass wir wieder losfahren werden, um einen großen ausgelassen weiteren Kontinent zu bereisen.

However, it was already clear to both of us at this point that we would be setting off again to travel to another „left out“ continent.

Nun sind die Ideen, Vorbereitungen und Erkundigungen schon wieder weit fortgeschritten. Es soll ab September/Oktober 2025 in Südamerika weitergehen.

Now the ideas, preparations and inquiries are already well advanced again. The plan is to continue in South America from September/October 2025.

Erkundigungen bezüglich der Verschiffung von Motorrädern von Deutschland nach Südamerika wurden eingeholt und zudem haben wir uns für ein neues Motorrad entschieden.

We made enquiries about shipping motorcycles from Germany to South America and also decided to buy a brand new motorcycle.

Da wir unsere treuen Reisegefährten von der letzten Tour, die Honda CRF300 Rallies, im Juni/Juli 2023 wieder verkauft hatten, wollten wir nun doch mit ein wenig mehr Kraft und Komfort, für die wohl langen Distanzen in Südamerika, ein neues Motorrad zulegen. Generell lag aber wieder der Fokus auf Preis, Gewicht, Reisetauglichkeit und auch dem Händlernetzwerk des Herstellers in Südamerika.

As we had sold our faithful traveling companion from the last tour, the Honda CRF300 Rallies, in June/July 2023, we wanted to buy a motorcycle with a little more power and comfort for the probably long distances in South America. In general, however, the focus was again on price, weight, suitability for touring and the manufacturer's dealer network in South America.

Folgende Motorräder haben unser Interesse am Anfang der Recherche geweckt:

·      Africa Twin 1100 L (Honda)

·      Tenere 700 (Yamaha)

·      Norden 901 Expedition (Husqvarna)

·      F 900 GS (BMW)

·      Tuareg 660 (Aprilla)

Im Oktober 2024 vor dem Winter in Deutschland haben wir daher noch Testfahrten mit möglichen neuen Motorrädern unternommen. Testfahrten wurden mit der Honda Africa Twin, der Yamaha Tenere 700 und der BMW F 900 GS gemacht.

Ziemlich schnell waren wir uns jedoch einig, dass es die Yamaha Tenere 700 für Südamerika werden soll.

Ausschlaggebend für die Entscheidung war dann das Gesamtpaket von Preis, Gewicht (handling) und Händlernetzwerk in Südamerika.

The following motorcycles aroused our interest at the beginning of our research:

·      Africa Twin 1100 L (Honda)

·      Tenere 700 (Yamaha)

·      Norden 901 Expedition (Husqvarna)

·      F 900 GS (BMW)

·      Tuareg 660 (Aprilla)

In October 2024, before the winter in Germany, we therefore undertook test rides with possible new motorcycles. We test rode the Honda Africa Twin, the Yamaha Tenere 700 and the BMW F 900 GS. 

However, we quickly agreed that the Yamaha Tenere 700 would be the bike for South America. 

The decisive factor for the decision was the overall package of price, weight (handling) and dealer network in South America.

Wir hatten das Modell 2024 der Yamaha Tenere 700 getestet und wollten vor einem Kauf erst noch abwarten wie das neue Modell für das Jahr 2025 ausfallen wird. Als dann bekannt wurde, dass das neue Modell für 2025 ein größeres „update“ erhält und auch der Neupreis nicht signifikant höher ist als für das Modell 2024 oder gebrauchte 1-2 Jahre alte Teneres, haben wir uns dazu entschieden wieder ein fabrikneues Motorrad uns zuzulegen.

We had tested the 2024 model of the Yamaha Tenere 700 and wanted to wait and see how the new model for the year 2025 would turn out before making a purchase. When it then became known that the new model for 2025 would receive a major “update” and that the new prices would not be significantly higher than for the 2024 model or used 1-2 year old Teneres, we decided to buy a brand new motorcycle once again.

Ich, Thilo, habe die "Rally" Variante der Tenere ausgewählt und Marc das Standardmodell. Es gibt ein paar technische unterschiede zwischen den Modellen aber beim ersten Hinsehen fällt, denke ich, zuerst auf, dass die "Rally" Variante noch ein wenig höher und farblich anders gestaltet ist. Generell muss man sagen, dass die Yamaha Tenere 700 generell eine stolze Sitzhöhe hat.

I, Thilo, have chosen the Rally version of the Tenere and Marc the standard model. There are a few technical differences, but I think the first thing you notice is that the Rally version is a little higher and has a different color scheme. In general, you have to say that the Yamaha Tenere 700 has a „proud“ seat height.

Die Motorräder sind jedenfalls Ende Mai’25 angekommen, werden noch ein wenig verfeinert und Ende Juni’25 ist dann eine Tour über 1.000km zum Einfahren geplant. Nach den ersten 1.000km steht die Erstinspektion an. Danach steht der Verschiffung nach Südamerika nichts mehr im Wege. Die weiteren Inspektionsintervalle während der Tour sollten dann ca. alle 10.000km stattfinden.

In any case, the bikes arrived at the end of May'25, will be fine-tuned a little and a tour of over 1,000km is planned for the end of June'25 to break them in. After the first 1,000 km, the first inspection is due. After that, nothing stands in the way of shipping the bikes to South America. The subsequent inspection intervals should then take place approximately every 10,000 km.
